On this Thanksgiving weekend, NSWFS member Norris Whiston forwarded a 2-page colour guide to fall colours of common trees & shrubs in Nova Scotia.

Photos of leaves are sorted first by colour, then by shape and finally by cut. Leaves similar are placed beside each other.

Go to NW Guides & Keys on this website to download the guide, and others contributed by Norris.

Comments Norris from his home on Earltown Mountain:

Earltown Mountain is almost totally orange, as it has lots of sugar maple.  Towns have lots of Norway Maple.  Earltown has blushes of red as the red maple is close to streams.  It has yellow with the birch and aspen on the edges of the fields and highway.  The southern parts of Nova Scotia have browns mixed in with their oak trees.  The colors cover the plant’s retreat of nutrients to the trunk and roots.

Happy Thanksgiving All & Thanks NW!
